How to compare companies within a sector

A practical research process using IVR, IVR2, MLL, quarterly results and debt indicators.

Responsible publisher: Ranking Invest · Editorial review:

1. Define the universe and date

Open the ranking, select BR or US and apply sector filters. Choose companies with similar activities. Record the observation date and reporting periods: even within one sector, business models and exposures can differ.

2. Compare the three indexes

Switch between IVR, IVR2 and MLL. Record changes in relative position and investigate whether equity, cumulative earnings or debt explain them. A high rank is a starting point for research.

3. Open each company's results

Follow company links to review revenue, earnings, margins, debt and history. Distinguish recurring results from exceptional events and consult the original filings. Check warnings about missing data or stale quotes.

4. Document your findings

Record criteria, sources and limitations. A useful comparison explains differences and identifies unanswered questions. The electricity-sector study in this guide collection provides a dated, real-data snapshot without recommending trades.
